  • Compare Gold, Platinum and Premium Credit Cards

Do you already have a great credit score and would like a credit card with more benefits? Gold, Platinum and Premium credit cards are for the financially savvy, but aren’t always available to everyone. This makes them rather exclusive in the world of credit cards.

What is a premium credit card?

With them being the most exclusive credit cards, you will often need a high income and a good credit score to even be considered. There is a price to pay for so many luxurious benefits: a high annual fee. If you are only going to use a credit card infrequently or might not be able to make the most of the benefits, you may want to consider another type of credit card instead.

However, if you plan on using a credit card regularly throughout the year, you can definitely reap the rewards. Benefits often include air miles, travel insurance, breakdown cover, money off products and concierge services.

What is the best premium credit card for me?

Make sure you do your financial homework with premium credit cards: often they might not be the right choice given their high interest rates. On the other hand, if you can comfortably pay off the balance each month, a premium credit card might come in handy. Watch out for the following points:

    • Annual fee: some premium credit cards have annual fees that are hundreds of pounds, so it’s best to make sure the benefits outweigh the price
    • APR: the Annual Purchase Rate of premium credit cards can often be very high. This can lead to further debt if not managed properly, so keep a close eye on your balance
    • Credit rating: most premium credit cards will require a good credit rating to even apply. Compare credit reports to check your credit score is high enough to apply
